Coaches

The 2014 WIAA D2 State Championship winning Head Coach of the Edgewood Crusaders and Wisconsin State Journal Madison Area 2014 High School Coach of the Year, Derek Scheer has all the aquatics experience you need in a coach. After 17 years of competitive swimming culminated by a successful four years on the UW Swimming and Diving Team, he competed while in law school for the University of Oregon’s Water Polo Club Team.  Since 2001 he has been competing in triathlonsand open water swims including Ironman Wisconsin, Door County Triathlon, Point to La Pointe OPS, Maui Channel Swim, and others.

Derek coached high school swimming with success.  As head coach, Derek led the Edgewood High School girls swim team to a 5th place finish at the division 2 state meet with 4 swimmers achieving All State recognition, 4  receiving recognition on the Academic All State Team, and 2 being selected as Academic All Americans.  The Edgewood High School boys swim team had even more success with the 2014 WIAA D2 State Team Title, 2013 WIAA D2 State Team Runner-Up, 9 individual state championships, 14 High School All American Automatic or Consideration times, and 3 being selected as Academic All Americans.

Derek has completed USA Triathlon Certified Level I Coaching program and has been coaching triathletes since 2002, including all levels from beginners wishing to get into the sport to Ironman distance finishers.  By focusing on stroke efficiency and technique development, he has coached numerous athletes who finished their first triathlons and over 80 ironman finishers.

Derek runs Open Water Swimming Programs and writes swim training plans that can get you ready for whatever
competition you are looking to do.  Derek has trained swimmers for sub-hour Ironman swims, Open Water Swimming Races, Masters Swimming Competitie meet with 4 swimmers achieving All State recognition, 4  receiving recognition on the Academic All State Team, and 2 being selected as Academic All Americans.  The Edgewood High School boys swim team had even more success with 5 individual state championships, 9 High School All American Automatic or Consideration times, and 3 being selected as Academic All Americans.
